Tue Sep 17 23:00:12 UTC 2024: ## Supermoon to light up the night sky tonight

**New Delhi:** Get ready to witness a celestial spectacle tonight as a Supermoon graces the sky, appearing larger and brighter than usual. According to astronomy expert Sarika Gharu, this phenomenon occurs when the moon, orbiting Earth in an elliptical path, reaches its closest point to our planet.

This full moon, also known as the ‘Corn Moon’ or ‘Harvest Moon,’ will be at its perigee, its closest point to Earth, tonight. The moon will be approximately 357,286 kilometers away from Earth.

Adding to the excitement, a penumbral lunar eclipse will occur in the early hours of the morning, before the moon returns to the sky as a Supermoon later in the evening. The eclipse will be visible in western India.

So mark your calendars and step outside to enjoy this spectacular display of celestial beauty!
