Tue Sep 17 06:54:15 UTC 2024: ## Atishi Marlena Singh Named New Delhi Chief Minister

**New Delhi, India:** Atishi Marlena Singh, a prominent member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been selected as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. The decision was made by AAP legislators on Tuesday, with Singh taking over from party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who is stepping down ahead of the upcoming Assembly election.

Singh, the Kalkaji MLA and currently holding the most portfolios in the AAP government, is the lone woman in the Delhi Cabinet. Her appointment comes after Kejriwal announced his resignation while on interim bail from jail in connection with the liquor policy case.

Singh was seen as the frontrunner for the top job after taking on a pivotal role within the party following the arrests of both Kejriwal and his former deputy, Manish Sisodia, in the liquor policy case. She became a prominent face for the party, particularly during the Lok Sabha elections, where she led the government’s charge alongside Saurabh Bharadwaj.

Her visibility increased further with a notable hunger strike in June against the Haryana government’s water policies, which led to a water crisis in Delhi.

Singh’s appointment as Chief Minister marks a significant moment in the AAP’s history. With a strong background in education, policy, and governance, she has served as advisor to former Education Minister Manish Sisodia and is credited with the introduction of key initiatives like the ‘Happiness Curriculum’ and ‘Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum’ in Delhi government schools.

Her appointment comes at a crucial time for the AAP, with the Delhi Assembly election just months away. Singh’s experience in governance and her popularity within the party are seen as strengths as she navigates the upcoming election.
