**West Palm Beach, FL** – Ryan Wesley Routh, a convicted felon from Hawaii, has been arrested and charged with possessing a firearm despite being a felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Routh is believed to have been involved in an apparent assassination attempt targeting former President Donald Trump at a golf course in West Palm Beach.

According to court documents, Routh was located near the golf course where Trump was playing, with a loaded rifle, a scope, and a plastic bag containing food. Routh had been positioned at the location for nearly 12 hours before he was spotted by the Secret Service.

Routh was apprehended on Sunday afternoon after a Secret Service agent noticed a firearm protruding from the shrubbery. The FBI has confirmed that Routh was present at the golf course from 1:59 am Sunday until approximately 1:31 pm, based on his cell phone data.

This is the second apparent assassination attempt targeting Trump in two months. On July 13, a bullet grazed Trump’s ear during a rally in Pennsylvania. Following this incident, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned and the agency implemented increased security measures for Trump, as requested by President Joe Biden.

Despite the incident, Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe assured the public that their protective methodologies were effective, as Routh did not have a line of sight to Trump and did not fire any shots.

The investigation into Routh’s digital footprint revealed conflicting information about his motivations. He had an active online presence, with postings that indicated interest in recruiting Afghan soldiers to fight for Ukraine. Authorities are examining his online activity to further understand his intentions.

Trump defended the Secret Service’s response to the incident, while President Biden acknowledged the need for more resources for the agency.
