**West Palm Beach, FL** – A man with a history of criminal offenses and a known supporter of Ukraine was apprehended Sunday after allegedly attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump while he was golfing at his resort in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The suspect, who remains unidentified, was found hiding in bushes near the resort’s perimeter with an AK-style rifle, two backpacks, a GoPro camera, and a scope. He was spotted by Secret Service personnel who fired upon him before he fled in a black Nissan SUV.
While the suspect was apprehended about 40 miles away, the incident has raised serious concerns about the security surrounding Trump, especially in the light of his potential return to the presidency. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw highlighted the fact that the suspect was able to get so close due to the limited security perimeter around Trump, which is significantly smaller than it would be if he were still in office.
President Biden, condemning the incident, emphasized the need for increased resources for the Secret Service and vowed to ensure the safety of former President Trump. Trump himself expressed gratitude for the actions of the Secret Service and law enforcement officials while dismissing the incident as an “interesting day.”
The incident has also drawn attention to the role of misinformation and political violence in the upcoming U.S. election. Officials have expressed concerns about threats of violence fueled by false claims and conspiracy theories circulating online.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the attempted assassination is ongoing, with the FBI leading the investigation.
