**Louisville, KY** – Angel’s Envy, known for its innovative cask finishing techniques, is shaking things up with the launch of their latest bourbon, Triple Oak. This new offering marks a departure from their signature port-finished expression, instead utilizing a blend of three distinct casks for secondary maturation.
Triple Oak, a culmination of Angel’s Envy’s ongoing exploration of cask finishing, sees five-year-old bourbon aged separately in second-fill Hungarian oak, new Chinkapin oak, and new French oak for varying lengths of time. This unique approach results in a bourbon that boasts a complex profile, showcasing the distinct characteristics of each wood type.
The Hungarian oak imparts a classic bourbon foundation, while the Chinkapin adds notes of vanilla and caramel. The French oak, contributing the most assertive flavor, provides a hint of baking spice and a touch of woody dust.
“The goal was to innovate, but still stay true to the brand,” explained Owen Martin, Angel’s Envy’s Master Distiller. “We’ve never done a release like this, but why couldn’t we, and how do we do it in our own way?”
Triple Oak is a well-balanced and flavorful bourbon, offering a nutty, sweet, and spicy palate with a subtle floral note. The 92 proof delivers a pleasant warmth on the finish.
“This release could lead to others,” Martin hinted, suggesting the possibility of a cask-strength version or single-cask expressions highlighting each wood type used in Triple Oak.
While Triple Oak is suitable for sipping, the brand encourages experimentation with cocktails such as a simple whiskey-cider blend or an Old Fashioned.
Whether you’re a devoted Angel’s Envy fan or seeking a fresh take on cask-finished bourbon, Triple Oak is a worthy addition to your collection.
