Mon Sep 16 15:45:36 UTC 2024: ## Finnish President Stubb Heads to UN General Assembly, to Deliver Joint Nordic Statement
Helsinki, Finland – President Alexander Stubb will lead the Finnish delegation to the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, starting on September 22nd. This marks Stubb’s first time leading the delegation, taking over from former president Sauli Niinistö.
During his five-day visit, Stubb will deliver a joint Nordic statement at the UN Security Council’s High-Level Open Debate on Leadership for Peace. He will also address the General Assembly’s General Debate and speak at the UN Summit of the Future, focusing on bolstering multilateral cooperation.
Stubb’s schedule also includes meetings on climate change, a World Economic Forum discussion on geopolitics, and a reception hosted by outgoing US President Joe Biden. The president will also participate in several one-on-one meetings with other world leaders.
The Finnish delegation, which includes Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, will return to Helsinki on September 26th.
