**Bengaluru, September 10, 2024:** SJS Enterprises, a leading provider of decorative aesthetics solutions, is facing accusations of illegally terminating 192 permanent employees from its manufacturing facilities in Agra and Bengaluru. The affected workers, who have been on a hunger strike since September 3rd in Bengaluru, allege that the company has also withheld salaries and other benefits.
The situation escalated when workers formed a trade union, the SJS Enterprises Ltd Workers’ Union, after their grievances were ignored by management. This move led to increased tensions, culminating in the suspension of 17 workers on disciplinary grounds. According to Rajnikanth, President of the SJS Workers’ Union, 8 of these suspensions were terminated without an inquiry, 3 were suspended, and 4 were terminated following an incomplete inquiry.
Further, 175 workers have been temporarily suspended for refusing to work, replaced by contract workers, alleges the union. The union claims that the management has violated SEBI disclosure norms by failing to inform the NSE and BSE about the ongoing strike.
The hunger strike has resulted in the hospitalization of 10-12 workers. SJS Enterprises did not respond to requests for comment.
