Mon Sep 16 22:00:34 UTC 2024: ## Suspect Arrested After Apparent Assassination Attempt on Former President Trump

**West Palm Beach, FL** – Ryan Wesley Routh, a North Carolina man with a criminal history, was arrested on Sunday after an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The incident occurred as Trump was golfing, with the suspect positioned in the tree line approximately 300-500 yards away.

A Secret Service agent spotted Routh’s rifle and fired at him, prompting him to flee. Routh was later apprehended on Interstate 95 about 50 miles north of the golf course. Bodycam footage released Monday shows Routh’s arrest, depicting a calm demeanor as he was taken into custody.

Initial reports indicate that Routh did not fire any shots. However, the investigation is ongoing, and federal authorities are reviewing his background, online activity, and the items found at the scene. DNA has been collected from the rifle and sent to an FBI lab for analysis.

Routh has been charged with two firearms offenses: possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and obliterating the serial number on a firearm. Additional charges related to the attempted assassination could be forthcoming.

President Biden, who addressed the incident during a speech in Philadelphia, praised the Secret Service for their expert handling of the situation and stressed that there is no place for political violence in America. The Biden administration has requested increased funding for the Secret Service, citing concerns about the agency’s resources to handle the heightened security threats.

Trump expressed gratitude to law enforcement for keeping him safe, while also blaming Biden and Harris’ rhetoric for contributing to the violence. He claims their comments about him being a threat to democracy are inciting dangerous individuals.

This incident marks the second apparent assassination attempt on Trump in recent months. In July, an armed suspect was apprehended at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The investigation into Sunday’s incident continues, and Routh is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
