**Jerusalem, Israel** – Israel has launched a new drive to recruit 10,000 Indian construction workers, adding to the 10,349 already working in the country under a bilateral agreement. This initiative comes as Israel faces a significant labor shortage, exacerbated by the ongoing conflict with Palestine and the suspension of Palestinian worker visas.
The recruitment drive is part of a wider agreement signed between India and Israel in May 2023, allowing 42,000 Indian workers to fill roles in construction and nursing. The latest initiative is focusing on four specific construction roles: framework, iron bending, plastering, and ceramic tiling. The recruitment process is taking place in Pune, Maharashtra, where officials also recently announced a massive semiconductor manufacturing project involving Israel’s Tower Semiconductor and India’s Adani Group.
The high wages offered in Israel are attracting Indian workers. Construction workers earn $1,600 per month in Israel, compared to $150-$300 in India. Israel’s embassy in India has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the first batch of workers, claiming that “reports” indicate they are satisfied with their work conditions and salaries.
In addition to construction workers, Israel is also seeking 5,000 certified care workers to meet the growing needs of its elderly population.
The influx of Indian workers is expected to provide a much-needed boost to Israel’s workforce, addressing labor shortages in key sectors and contributing to the country’s economic development.
