**Roscommon, Ireland** – Tori Towey, a former Emirates flight attendant, has opened up about her journey to recovery after experiencing alleged domestic abuse while living in Dubai.
Towey, who returned to Ireland in July following diplomatic intervention after being banned from leaving Dubai, spoke candidly on Georgie Crawford’s The Good Glow podcast about her ordeal and the subsequent healing process.
“It was very difficult in the beginning. I was anxious when I first came back,” she admitted, adding, “But now that time has passed, I feel like I’m slowly getting back to the person I used to be.”
Towey described a controlling and abusive relationship with her ex-husband, who denies the allegations. “He was very controlling, aggressive and just physically abusive,” she said, detailing the isolation and shame she felt during that time.
Her situation escalated to the point where she attempted suicide, a crime in the UAE, leading to the travel ban. Towey credits her mother for coming to her aid in Dubai and the Irish government, particularly Minister Simon Harris, for their unwavering support in securing her safe return.
“To have someone so high up give you that reassurance was just the best feeling ever,” she expressed, highlighting the relief she felt upon arriving back in Ireland.
Now, Towey is focusing on rebuilding her life and rediscovering joy. “I remember thinking at the time I’ll never be happy again. I’ll never laugh again,” she said. “But now I’m meeting up with friends, I just feel like I’m back to myself.”
She encourages others who may be experiencing similar situations to seek help and prioritize their own well-being. “Never, ever put someone’s happiness above your own because you only get one life and don’t waste it,” Towey stressed.
