Sun Sep 15 17:24:25 UTC 2024: ## Diamondbacks Designate Dylan Floro for Assignment, Recall Blake Walston

**Phoenix, Arizona** – The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that they have designated right-handed pitcher Dylan Floro for assignment, making room on the active roster for left-hander Blake Walston, who was recalled from Triple-A.

Floro, who signed a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals in the offseason, was traded to the Diamondbacks before the trade deadline in exchange for first baseman Andres Chaparro. While Floro had a strong start to the season with the Nationals, his performance in Arizona has been disastrous. He has posted a 9.37 ERA in 16 1/3 innings pitched with the Diamondbacks, a stark contrast to his 2.06 ERA with the Nationals.

Floro will now be placed on waivers. If he clears waivers, he can either accept an outright assignment to the minor leagues or elect free agency. Despite his struggles in Arizona, Floro’s overall season stats still show a 3.80 ERA and 3.51 FIP, which may entice some teams to offer him a minor league deal.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are looking to Walston, a 23-year-old rookie, to provide multi-inning relief from the left side. He made his MLB debut in May and has a 2.84 ERA in 12 2/3 innings pitched, although he has struggled with control, walking nearly as many batters as he has struck out. Walston joins the roster as Ryne Nelson is currently on the injured list and Jordan Montgomery is set to return to the starting rotation.

The Diamondbacks’ decision to designate Floro for assignment comes as no surprise given his poor performance. The team will hope that Walston can provide some much-needed relief pitching depth in the final stretch of the season.
