Tue Sep 17 12:25:33 UTC 2024: ## Super Harvest Moon Lunar Eclipse to Grace Skies in September 2024, but Not in India
Skywatchers across the globe are set to witness a stunning celestial event on September 18, 2024: a Super Harvest Moon lunar eclipse. This rare phenomenon will see the Moon, at its closest point to Earth, pass through our planet’s shadow, giving it a distinctive reddish hue, known as a Blood Moon. While this will be a partial eclipse, covering 8.4% of the lunar surface, it promises to be a breathtaking spectacle.
The eclipse will be visible in North America, South America, Antarctica, Africa, Europe, Western Asia, and southwestern Russia. However, India will unfortunately miss out on the celestial show as the Moon will be below the horizon during the entire event.
The eclipse begins at 6:11 AM Indian Standard Time (IST) on September 18 and concludes at 10:17 AM, with a total duration of 4 hours and 6 minutes.
Despite its absence from Indian skies, the eclipse has captured the interest of many due to its religious and cultural significance. The timing coincides with Bhadrapada Purnima and the beginning of Pitru Paksha, making it a particularly important event in Hindu belief.
While India won’t have a direct view, the eclipse will be live-streamed by major astronomy platforms like NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA), allowing enthusiasts to witness the event online with expert commentary.
This Super Harvest Moon eclipse can be viewed with the naked eye, and binoculars or telescopes can enhance the viewing experience.
