The traditional group stage is out, replaced by a single league where every team plays eight other clubs, four at home and four away. A win earns three points, a draw one. Opta’s supercomputer predicts that 16 points from a possible 24 will likely be enough to secure a top-eight finish, while teams aiming for a play-off spot will need at least 10 points.
