The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has accused the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, of deliberately delaying the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) following the rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor. This, according to the agency, was done to obstruct the investigation.
Ghosh, who has been arrested by the CBI alongside Tala Police Station officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondal, allegedly received information about the incident at 9:58 am on August 9th but did not immediately reach the hospital or lodge a police complaint. Instead, he consulted with an advocate and later filed a vague complaint through the medical superintendent-vice principal, who introduced a theory of suicide.
The CBI alleges that Ghosh’s actions were deliberate, as the victim’s body displayed external injuries incompatible with suicide, and the doctor was declared dead at 12:44 pm. Furthermore, the agency claims Ghosh contacted Mondal at 10:03 am, an hour before a case of unnatural death was registered, and an advocate at 1:40 pm, even though the victim was already dead.
The CBI, based on evidence including polygraph tests, believes that Ghosh and Mondal conspired to divert the investigation. Mondal is accused of reaching the crime scene an hour after receiving information and deliberately registering a case of unnatural death, despite the evidence pointing to a homicide.
The investigation continues as the CBI probes the alleged conspiracy to cover up the rape-murder and bring the perpetrators to justice.
