Baku, Azerbaijan – Oscar Piastri secured his second Formula 1 victory of the season in a thrilling Azerbaijan Grand Prix, leading McLaren to a dominant one-two finish and taking the team to the top of the Constructors’ Championship.

Piastri, starting from second, made a bold move at the start to take the lead, but dropped back after losing the DRS advantage. He clawed his way back after his pit stop and then made another aggressive move to pass the race leader, holding on for the win.

“I’m so happy to have won my second Grand Prix,” Piastri said. “It was hard work but definitely goes down as one of my better races.”

Team Principal Andrea Stella praised Piastri’s performance: “Oscar’s performance throughout the race was exceptional, and to take the lead in the way that he did is proof of what a special driver he is.”

Teammate Lando Norris also had a strong race, recovering from a poor starting position to secure the fastest lap and a significant number of points for the team.

“A great result for the team, with a great race from both sides,” said Norris. “We’re the team that gained the most points today, so I think we should be very satisfied.”

The result underlines McLaren’s significant progress since the start of the season, a turnaround that Stella attributed to the hard work and dedication of the entire team.

“Today’s result also promotes us to first in the Constructors’ Championship, an important milestone in our journey,” Stella said. “However, the team remains clearly focused on the task ahead.”

The victory in Baku sees McLaren take a significant step forward in the championship standings, but the team is already looking ahead to the next race in Singapore.
