**Hulunbuir, China:** The Indian men’s hockey team showcased their dominance at the Asian Champions Trophy 2024, successfully defending their title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over hosts China in the final on Tuesday. The match, played at the Moqi Hockey Training Base, was a tense affair with both sides vying for the coveted trophy.

The first three quarters witnessed a deadlock as both teams fiercely battled for supremacy. Despite India’s strong start, China’s defense held firm, keeping the Indian forwards at bay. The breakthrough finally arrived in the fourth quarter when Jugraj Singh, scoring his second goal of the tournament, slotted home the only goal of the game in the 51st minute. The goal came after an enterprising run by captain Harmanpreet Singh through the left of the Chinese D, setting up the opportunity for Jugraj.

China rallied in the final minutes, trying to equalize but the Indian defense, anchored by first rusher Amit Rohidas, stood strong. The final whistle confirmed India’s victory, making them the most successful team in the Asian Champions Trophy history with five titles.

Harmanpreet Singh, who finished as India’s top scorer with seven goals, was aptly named the Player of the Tournament. He was also crucial in setting up Jugraj’s winning goal.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan secured the bronze medal with a 5-2 win over South Korea. The Indian team displayed a remarkable performance throughout the tournament, defeating China 3-0 in their opening match and showcasing their prowess with wins against Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Pakistan.
