**Palm Beach, FL** – Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, has been taken into custody following an apparent assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump at the Trump International Golf Course in Florida.
Routh, who has a history of legal issues and a mixed political background, is suspected of approaching the golf course armed with an AK-47-style rifle on Sunday. The FBI recovered the weapon, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera from the bush where he was hiding.
Although he initially escaped in his car, a witness identified the black Nissan he was driving and authorities issued an urgent alert. Two officers spotted Routh’s vehicle 45 minutes after the gun was found and followed him. He was ultimately apprehended on Interstate 95.
Routh’s social media activity reveals a complex picture of his political views. Routh’s son, Oran, has spoken out about his father, saying, “I don’t know what’s happened in Florida, and I hope things have just been blown out of proportion, because from the little I’ve heard it doesn’t sound like the man I know to do anything crazy, much less violent.”
No official charges have been filed against Routh, but he is expected to appear in court later today.
