Jenna Ortega, star of the hit Netflix series “Wednesday,” has faced criticism for revealing that she rewrote parts of the show’s first season. The actress, who plays the iconic Addams Family character, had previously expressed frustration with aspects of the script, stating that some elements felt out of character for Wednesday. These comments, made during a podcast interview, drew attention during the writers’ strike.
While acknowledging Ortega’s criticisms, creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar defended their collaboration with the actress. “We work with Jenna very closely on the show,” said Millar, “It’s always an incredibly collaborative and joyful experience.” He added that they were proud of Ortega’s work and had even made her a producer on the show for the upcoming season.
Ortega herself has since admitted that she could have been more tactful in her initial statements. “I think I could have used my words better,” she told Vanity Fair.
Despite the controversy, the creators maintain their support for Ortega. “It’s never pleasant,” said Gough, “but it just comes with the territory. I think we’re at the point now where the internet’s going to do what the internet’s going to do. What you don’t want to do is give these things oxygen.”
Production on the second season of “Wednesday” is currently underway in Ireland, with a late 2025 release expected.
