Sun Sep 15 10:55:16 UTC 2024: ## Cacace Defends IBF Title Against Warrington at Wembley
Anthony Cacace, the reigning IBF super-featherweight champion, will defend his title against former champion Josh Warrington at Wembley Stadium on a massive fight card featuring Daniel Dubois vs. Anthony Joshua.
Cacace, known as the “Andytown Apache,” won the title in May by defeating Joe Cordina in Saudi Arabia. This will be his first title defense, and he acknowledges that the pressure is on as he transitions from hunter to hunted.
“It’s good as you don’t have to go begging for fights or call names out,” Cacace said. “The fights are there and people want to fight you because they want what I have and get into that position.”
Warrington, a formidable opponent with a perfect record against Irish fighters, presents a significant challenge. He has previously defeated Irish boxers Carl Frampton, Martin Lindsay, and Patrick Hyland.
“He’s (Warrington) 3-0 against the Irish, but I feel I can do him,” Cacace stated. “I don’t know whether I’m the underdog or what, but it just makes for a really good, fan-friendly fight.”
The fight will take place on a stacked card filled with exciting matchups, including Joshua Buatsi, Liam Smith, and the main event of Dubois vs. Joshua. This event marks a major moment for both fighters, as it represents a homecoming for Cacace and a chance for Warrington to reclaim his title.
Cacace, who narrowly missed out on a fight on the Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte card in 2022 due to visa issues, is now at the pinnacle of his career. He attributes his unexpected rise to a series of events that ultimately led him to his title victory in Saudi Arabia.
“How my career has panned out from start to now is mind-blowing,” he admitted. “I feel like now it was all meant to be: fights falling through, injuries, blah blah blah, which all led me to Saudi Arabia feels like it was meant to be.”
