Director Raaj Shaandilyaa, known for the “Dream Girl” franchise, has assured fans that his upcoming film “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video” starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri is not a remake of the 2014 Hollywood film “Sex Tape.”
Shaandilyaa clarified that he has not even seen “Sex Tape,” and the inspiration for his film comes from real life and the people around him. “Vicky Vidya…” revolves around a married couple frantically searching for a CD containing a video of their wedding night, whereas “Sex Tape” is about a couple whose homemade sex tape goes missing.
Shaandilyaa explained that the characters and storyline are completely different and that the video in his film is lost due to the couple’s negligence. He has already started work on the sequel, set in the early days of the internet, which will pick up where the first film ends.
The director was drawn to Rajkummar Rao for his “middle-class boy from a small-town city” persona, while Triptii Dimri was chosen to offer a fresh pairing with Rao. Shaandilyaa is also known for his careful writing, avoiding sensitive topics such as religion.
He chose the 1990s setting for the film to capture the CD era, which he felt influenced society significantly. The film is set to release on October 11th.
Shaandilyaa is currently working on several other projects, including a sequel to “Dream Girl” and plans to collaborate with actors like Ayushmann Khurrana, Kartik Aaryan, and Varun Dhawan. He is excited about the variety of stories he has written, ranging from hardcore comedy to political drama.
