Sun Sep 15 12:19:46 UTC 2024: ## Team USA Takes Control of Solheim Cup with 10-6 Lead

**Gainesville, Virginia** – Team USA took a commanding 10-6 lead over Europe in the Solheim Cup on Saturday, putting themselves in prime position to claim the trophy for the first time in seven years. The Americans split both the foursomes and fourball sessions, leaving Europe with a mountain to climb in Sunday’s singles matches.

The afternoon fourball session saw a thrilling exchange of blows. Rose Zhang and Andrea Lee secured the first point for the US with a dominant 6&4 victory over Linn Grant and Celine Boutier. Alison Lee and Megan Khang followed suit with a 4&3 win over Anna Nordqvist and Madelene Sagstrom. However, Europe refused to back down, as Emily Pedersen and Carlota Ciganda trimmed the lead with a 2&1 victory over Ally Ewing and Lexi Thompson. Charley Hull and Georgia Hall then secured a point for Europe with a 2-up win over Allisen Corpuz and Lilia Vu.

The morning foursomes session saw a similar back-and-forth battle. Lauren Coughlin and Lexi Thompson secured the first point for the US with a 4&3 win over Maja Stark and Georgia Hall. However, Europe quickly responded with a 4&3 win by Anna Nordqvist and Celine Boutier over Lilia Vu and Sarah Schmelzel. Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz managed a 1-up victory over Emily Pedersen and Carlota Ciganda, becoming the first tandem in Solheim Cup history to win four consecutive foursomes matches. Europe’s Esther Henseleit and Charley Hull ultimately won their match 1-up over Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho.

Despite the spirited fightback from the European team, Team USA captain Stacy Lewis remains confident: “The Europeans played a lot better today, and that showed, but really, really happy with the day, and to keep the same lead,” she said. “We’re going to go try to win as many points early as we can and try to get this thing done.”

The largest lead overcome entering the final 12 singles matches is four points, meaning Europe will need a record-equalling comeback to win their fourth consecutive Solheim Cup. Leona Maguire, who missed the first two days of competition, will face Ally Ewing in her singles match.

With a lead of four points, Team USA is on the verge of reclaiming the Solheim Cup. The pressure will be on the European team to mount a dramatic comeback in the singles matches to avoid a historic defeat.
