Sun Sep 15 16:51:05 UTC 2024: ## LSU Escapes with Thrilling 36-33 Win Over South Carolina in SEC Opener

**COLUMBIA, S.C.** – In a game that was anything but pretty, LSU football secured a hard-fought 36-33 victory over South Carolina on Saturday, marking their first SEC win of the season. The Tigers (2-1, 1-0 SEC) overcame a 17-0 deficit, ultimately taking the lead late in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by senior Josh Williams.

The Gamecocks (2-1, 0-1 SEC) jumped out to an early lead thanks to a strong offensive performance, but LSU’s defense stepped up, giving their offense multiple opportunities in the second half. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier led the offensive charge, completing 24 of 40 passes for 285 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Despite the win, LSU’s performance raised concerns, particularly regarding a blocked punt that the Tigers will be addressing with SEC officials. However, the victory propelled LSU to No. 16 in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and Associated Press poll.

The Tigers return home for their Week 4 matchup against UCLA (1-1) at Tiger Stadium this Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT, ABC).
