**FORT WORTH, Texas** – The UCF Knights mounted a remarkable comeback Saturday night, erasing a 21-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat the TCU Horned Frogs 35-34 in their Big 12 opener.
The victory marks the largest comeback for UCF since they overcame a 21-point deficit against Boise State in September 2021.
Running back RJ Harvey led the charge for the Knights, rushing for 180 yards and three touchdowns, extending his streak of 100-yard rushing games to five.
Quarterback KJ Jefferson, who had a slow start, rallied in the final quarter, throwing for three touchdowns, including the game-winning 20-yard pass to receiver Kobe Hudson with 42 seconds remaining.
“I’m extremely proud of our team,” said UCF head coach Gus Malzahn. “We simplified some things on offense, and we just started committing to run it downhill, and when we did that, it opened up the passing game.”
TCU, led by quarterback Josh Hoover’s 402 passing yards, jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, but were ultimately undone by the Knights’ resilient offense.
Harvey, who scored twice in the second half, was a key factor in the comeback, as was Hudson, who finished with 145 yards receiving and two touchdowns, including the game-winning catch.
“It’s probably got to be No. 1,” Hudson said about his game-winning catch. “It was a blessing. I thank God, my teammates, and the coaches for believing in me in that big-time moment.”
UCF now sits at 3-0, and will have a bye week before hosting Colorado on September 28th.
