Sun Sep 15 10:53:01 UTC 2024: ## Grown-ups Go Back to Camp: Nostalgic Getaway Trend Sees Boom in Adult-Only Summer Camps
**New York, NY** – Forget European vacations and fancy resorts, the hottest travel trend for adults is returning to the nostalgic world of summer camp. Across the globe, a growing number of adults are trading in luxury vacations for shared cabins, campfire singalongs, and activities like archery, kayaking, and crafts, but with an adult twist.
These adult-only summer camps, some costing upwards of $1,200 per day, cater to the growing need for connection and community in a world that often feels increasingly isolating. While traditional camp activities are present, these camps also offer modern comforts like memory foam mattresses, spa treatments, and themed parties with cocktails.
“It’s like a throwback to childhood, but with a grown-up vibe,” says David Schreiber, owner of Club Getaway, a Connecticut camp hosting adult-only sessions. Schreiber reports a 9% increase in revenue for this segment in 2024 compared to the previous year.
Liv Schreiber, founder of Camp Social, a three-day event selling out within minutes, emphasizes the social element. “Many people come alone and leave with new friends,” she says. “We want to help adults connect and relieve stress, just like we did as kids.”
The trend extends beyond traditional summer camp settings. Wandawega, a Wisconsin resort, offers camp-like amenities and activities, attracting an 80% adult clientele. Camp Château, a women-only camp in France, welcomes 50 women per session, offering a retreat-like atmosphere with activities like foraging, ceramics, and jam-making.
Luxury hotels are even jumping on the bandwagon. The Standard in Miami Beach and the Four Seasons in Los Cabos both offer adult summer camp programs, featuring upscale amenities and activities. The Standard’s program saw a 50% increase in attendance from 2023 to 2024, and the Four Seasons’ camp offers a blend of luxury and camp activities like snorkeling, hiking, and wellness treatments.
This trend highlights the growing need for adults to reconnect with a simpler time and to find community in a world often characterized by isolation. Whether it’s a nostalgic trip down memory lane or a chance to forge new friendships, the appeal of adult summer camps lies in the shared experience, the opportunity for connection, and the chance to rediscover the joy of being a kid, even as an adult.
