Despite rumors circulating online that a “Goonies” sequel was in the works, starring the original cast and directed by Steven Spielberg, the hopes of a new adventure have been dashed by cast members Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton.
Feldman, known for his role as Mouth, stated he had “no info” about any sequel, while Plimpton, who played the iconic character of “Andy” was more direct, stating that “There’s no Goonies 2 script, there’s no one attached. Spielberg is not directing, it’s not real.”
While a sequel has been a long-held dream for fans, Spielberg has acknowledged that he and co-writer Chris Columbus have discussed potential ideas, but nothing concrete has come to fruition.
While the Goonies may not be returning to the big screen, a show about the making of the original film, called “Our Time,” is currently in development.
Fans of the beloved 80s film will have to content themselves with the original “Goonies” for now, but with the success of “Beetlejuice 2,” it’s likely other beloved franchises will receive legacy sequels in the near future.
