Sun Sep 15 14:39:20 UTC 2024: ## Manning Shines as Ewers Exits with Injury in Texas’ Dominant Win

**Austin, Texas –** Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers exited Saturday’s game against UTSA in the second quarter due to an abdominal strain, allowing redshirt freshman Arch Manning to showcase his talent in a 56-7 rout.

Ewers, a Heisman Trophy favorite, had thrown for two touchdowns and one interception before leaving the game. Manning, nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, stepped in and delivered a stellar performance, throwing for four touchdowns and rushing for another in a dominant display.

Manning’s first drive resulted in a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore Jr., giving Texas a commanding 21-0 lead. He then showcased his running ability with a 67-yard touchdown run on the next drive, extending the lead to 28-7.

The second half saw more Manning magic, with a 51-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Bond and a 75-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo. Manning finished the game with 9 completions for 223 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 53 rushing yards on three carries.

Despite the impressive performance, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian emphasized that Ewers remains the starting quarterback unless his injury persists. “It’s hard when you have a backup who doesn’t have a ton of experience,” Sarkisian said. “Arch was our third guy last year…Playing in front of 105,000 people is not the easiest thing to do. I’m really proud of Arch.”

Manning expressed his support for Ewers and hopes for a speedy recovery. “I’ve just learned so much from him,” Manning said. “He’s been the man to me, and I hope he’s OK.”

The Longhorns will be hoping for a healthy return for Ewers, but Manning’s performance provides a reassuring glimpse into the future of the program.
