**MINNEAPOLIS, MN** – The Minnesota Vikings have confirmed that they fielded multiple trade inquiries for star wide receiver Justin Jefferson before he signed a record-breaking contract extension this past June.
According to league sources, the San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets, and Indianapolis Colts all expressed interest in acquiring the three-time Pro Bowler. However, Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah dismissed all offers, stating that trading Jefferson was never a consideration.
“We were never even remotely interested in trading Justin,” Adofo-Mensah said at the NFL scouting combine in February.
Jefferson, the 2022 Offensive Player of the Year, holds the NFL record for most receiving yards in the first three seasons of a career (4,825) and is currently averaging a record-breaking 98.3 receiving yards per game. The Vikings signed Jefferson to a four-year, $140 million extension in June, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history.
The 49ers’ interest in Jefferson came amidst their contract negotiations with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who eventually signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the team in September.
The two teams will face each other on Sunday, with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledging the challenge posed by Jefferson.
“He can run any angle at full speed and drop his weight,” Shanahan said of the star receiver. “His hands are as good as anyone’s, and from what I’ve heard, he’s one of the smartest players out there. He’s the full package.”
The Vikings, who have a strong offense built around Jefferson, will look to leverage his talents to secure a win against the 49ers.
