Sun Sep 15 03:28:00 UTC 2024: ## Rockies Edge Out Cubs in Wild 10-Inning Thriller
**Denver, CO** – The Colorado Rockies emerged victorious in a dramatic 10-inning battle against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night at Coors Field, winning 6-5 in front of a sold-out crowd. The win put a dent in the Cubs’ fading playoff hopes, while the Rockies continued their fight for a winning season.
The game was a back-and-forth affair with both teams trading blows throughout the night. The Cubs held a late lead in the ninth inning, but pinch-hitter Sam Hilliard tied the game with a two-run homer off reliever Porter Hodge, his third career pinch-hit homer to tie or take the lead in the ninth inning or later.
“It’s not easy, but I kind of know what to expect — emotions-wise, feelings-wise, adrenaline,” said Hilliard, who now ties Jason Giambi for the most such homers in Rockies history. “The main thing I was telling myself was just to be relaxed. ‘You don’t have to hit a home run right here, just put a good at-bat together, and you know if you just touch the ball, it’s going to go.'”
Brenton Doyle delivered the game-winning single in the 10th inning, scoring the ghost runner and securing the Rockies’ victory.
Rockies starter Kyle Freeland pitched well, giving up seven hits over seven innings with three strikeouts and a walk. Cubs starter Jameson Taillon pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six.
The Cubs remain six games behind the Mets for the final National League wild-card spot, while the Rockies continue to fight for a winning record.
The two teams will face off again on Sunday with Kyle Hendricks (Cubs) and Cal Quantrill (Rockies) set to take the mound.
