Sun Sep 15 14:36:00 UTC 2024: ## Russian Bombing Kills One, Injures 42 in Kharkiv Apartment Building

**KHARKIV, UKRAINE** – A Russian-guided bomb struck a multi-storey apartment building in Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, on Sunday, killing one person and injuring 42, officials said. The attack ignited a fire that engulfed the building, causing significant damage to the top floors.

Among the casualties was a 94-year-old woman whose body was recovered from the ninth floor of the building. Three children were also among the injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his nightly address, called for swift decisions from Western partners to provide long-range weapons and air defence systems to Ukraine. He argued that such weapons are needed to target Russian military aviation deep inside Russia and prevent future attacks.

“Every Russian strike of this nature, every instance of Russian terror, like today in Kharkiv…this proves that there must be long-range capability and it must be sufficient,” Zelenskyy said.

He specifically urged the United States, France, Germany, and Italy to act decisively to help save Ukrainian lives.

The Russian government has not yet commented on the attack but has consistently denied intentionally targeting civilians despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

This incident comes as tensions remain high between Ukraine and Russia, with the conflict entering its 20th month.
