Sun Sep 15 16:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Klang E-Waste Facility Raids Net Millions in Seized Materials

**KUALA LUMPUR:** Authorities have seized nearly RM42 million worth of materials and equipment in a series of raids on six illegal e-waste processing facilities in Pandamaran, Klang. The facilities, operating without licenses and registration, were generating millions of ringgit in profits, according to police.

The raids, conducted last Thursday by the Wildlife Crime Bureau, Environment Department, Anti-Money Laundering Division, and National Water Services Commission, resulted in the arrests of six locals and 43 foreigners aged between 22 and 60.

The seized materials included a significant amount of electronics destined for metal extraction, such as:

* 2,800kg of stainless steel
* 83,700kg of aluminum
* 6,000kg of steel
* 6,000kg of solid iron
* 10,500kg of CPUs
* 3,000kg of batteries
* 37,000kg of copper
* 30,000kg of plastics
* 103,000kg of cables
* 50 e-waste processing machines
* 14 sets of transport machinery

The total value of seized materials is estimated at RM41.58 million.

Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, acting director of Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department, emphasized the health risks associated with illegal e-waste disposal. Toxic materials present in e-waste and plastics can cause serious health complications for those exposed to them.

The local authority issued compounds to the facilities for operating without licenses, while the Environment Department sealed the premises and issued compounds under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

In a separate incident, a local man was detained for illegal possession of wildlife and firearms in Taman Gasing Indah. Items seized included a pig-nosed tortoise, ivory, bird cages, an air rifle, air pistols, and pellets, with an estimated value of RM269,720.

Between January 1st and September 14th, authorities conducted 134 raids on illegal e-waste facilities and smuggling operations, resulting in the seizure of RM418,240 million worth of items and the arrest of 383 individuals.

Police urged the public to cooperate in combating these illegal activities by providing information to authorities.
