Sun Sep 15 03:47:30 UTC 2024: ## CBI Arrests Former Principal and Police Official in Kolkata Doctor’s Rape-Murder Case
**Kolkata, India** – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and a police official on charges of obstructing the investigation into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital last month.
Ghosh, who was previously arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for financial irregularities at the hospital, is suspected of misleading the CBI probe. Additionally, Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of the Tala Police Station, which responded to the crime scene, was also apprehended by the CBI.
The doctor’s body was discovered in the hospital’s fourth-floor seminar room on August 9th, sparking widespread public outrage and demands for justice.
Sources indicate that two more Kolkata Police officials are under scrutiny by the CBI. The agency is also questioning a Sub-Inspector from the Tala Police Station in relation to the case.
Suspicions arose regarding Ghosh’s involvement after it was discovered that he ordered the demolition of a restroom and toilet near the seminar room on August 10th. This demolition is believed to have potentially destroyed crucial evidence related to the crime.
The Supreme Court recently rejected Ghosh’s appeal against the Calcutta High Court’s decision to order a CBI probe into the corruption case against him.
This arrest further intensifies the ongoing investigation into the tragic murder of the trainee doctor, and the CBI continues to probe the case for further evidence and potential accomplices.
