**GLENDALE, Ariz.** – Former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has confirmed he is under investigation by the National Marine Fisheries Service for allegedly collecting a whale specimen twenty years ago.
Kennedy, who is currently campaigning for former President Donald Trump, announced the investigation during a rally in Glendale, Arizona, this weekend. He claimed the investigation is politically motivated, accusing the agency of weaponizing the government against political opponents.
While Kennedy did not provide details about the incident, his daughter previously described a situation involving a dead whale from 30 years ago in a 2012 magazine article. The article recounts how, as a child, she accompanied her father as he used a chainsaw to cut off the head of a dead whale that washed ashore, attaching it to their car with bungee cords for the drive home.
The incident resurfaced last month, prompting an environmental group, the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, to call for an investigation. Brett Hartl, the group’s political director, argued that Kennedy’s “privilege” should not excuse him from following the law and called for him to surrender any illegally obtained wildlife parts.
Kennedy’s comments come amidst other controversies involving his handling of wildlife. In August, he admitted to disposing of a young dead bear in Central Park, stating he planned to skin it for meat but ultimately staged a scene to make it appear as though the bear was struck by a bike.
The National Marine Fisheries Service has not yet commented on the investigation. Kennedy, however, has denied killing any whales and claims he is not interested in discussing the incident, preferring to focus on policy issues instead.
