Sun Sep 15 14:42:18 UTC 2024: ## Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa Rejects Retirement Calls After Latest Concussion
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has suffered his fourth concussion in five years, following a collision with Buffalo Bills safety Demar Hamlin during Thursday night’s game. Despite calls for his retirement, including from Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Piece, Tagovailoa has no plans to hang up his cleats.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tagovailoa has already begun seeing concussion specialists and will continue to do so until he and his doctors deem him healthy enough to return. “He has no plans to retire,” Rapoport reported. “In fact, his eyes are already on returning to the football field.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter echoed this sentiment, stating that Tagovailoa will meet with neurologists this week and will enter the meeting with no intentions of retiring.
While a return timeline remains unknown, with each concussion being different, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has stated that Skylar Thompson will be the starting quarterback going forward.
Tagovailoa’s concussion history dates back to his time at Alabama, with two further concussions suffered during the 2022 season. The severity of his latest injury has sparked concern among fans and experts, but Tagovailoa is determined to return to the field when he is fully recovered.
This news comes after Tagovailoa signed a four-year, $212.4 million contract with the Dolphins this past offseason, with $167.1 million guaranteed. It remains to be seen how his concussion history will impact his future in the NFL.
