Sun Sep 15 14:12:57 UTC 2024: ## Reckless Kelly: “Retired” From Touring, Not From Music

**Austin, TX** – After announcing a three-year plan to retire from touring in 2022, Texas-based band Reckless Kelly are releasing their new album, “The Last Frontier,” and show no signs of slowing down completely. While they’re scaling back their relentless touring schedule, the band assures fans they’re not going anywhere.

“We’re retiring from playing 180 shows a year,” explains frontman Willy Braun, who co-founded the band with his brother Cody. “But we’re still making records, and we’re still gonna play every now and then.”

“The Last Frontier” is a concept album with a twist. It features 11 tracks, each clocking in at under three minutes, inspired by the short attention spans of modern listeners. “I got it in my head that it’s hard enough to get them to listen to a whole song, let alone a whole record,” says Willy, who wrote or co-wrote every song on the album.

The album, recorded at Arlyn Studios in Austin with Jonathan Tyler co-producing, showcases Reckless Kelly’s signature hick-rock sound with a fresh twist. Featuring collaborations with Kelly Willis, Micky and Gary Braun of Micky and the Motorcars, and Jeff Crosby, the album blends the band’s roots with a modern sensibility.

While Willy focuses on solo projects, Cody is keeping busy with studio work and a supergroup called Scattered and Shattered. The band’s drummer, Jay Nazz, has taken on artist management, adding Ellis Bullard and Kenny Feidler to his roster.

Despite “retirement” from constant touring, the future of Reckless Kelly remains bright. They have several shows scheduled for 2024, including appearances at MusicFest at Steamboat and Mile 0 Festival in Key West, where they will once again back Steve Earle.

While acknowledging the end of their high-volume touring days, Cody says, “It’s most likely going to be something different than it’s been for the last 20-plus years.”

One thing remains clear: Reckless Kelly, with their undeniable talent and dedication to music, are not ready to fade into the sunset. “The Last Frontier” is a testament to their ongoing evolution and creative energy.
