**Gandhinagar, India -** Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that India is set to become a global leader in renewable energy, highlighting the country’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and becoming energy independent. Addressing the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST 2024) in Gandhinagar on Monday, PM Modi emphasized India’s unique position as a country with immense renewable energy potential and a strong commitment to sustainable development.

“India is preparing the base for development for the next 1000 years and the focus is not just to reach the top but to sustain the rank,” PM Modi said. He reiterated that the government is working towards a green future and net zero targets, stating that these are not just “fancy words” but essential for the country’s progress.

PM Modi outlined several key initiatives taken by the government to achieve the goal of 500 GW renewable energy capacity, including the “PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana,” a scheme providing financial assistance and installation support for solar rooftops in every household. He highlighted that 13 million families have registered for the program, with 3.25 lakh households already having completed installation.

To further accelerate India’s energy transition, the government has also allocated ₹7000 crore for the viability gap funding scheme for offshore green energy projects, and approved more than ₹12,000 crore for 31,000 MW hydropower generation.

“India is the first G-20 country to meet climate commitments made in Paris nine years before the deadline,” PM Modi stated, underscoring the country’s leadership in climate action. “We did what developed nations could not do.”

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of a strong domestic manufacturing ecosystem for renewable energy technologies, highlighting the government’s focus on electric mobility, high performance bio manufacturing, and a ₹1 trillion research fund to support innovation in this sector.

RE-INVEST 2024, with nearly 40 sessions, is expected to attract significant global investment in India’s renewable energy sector, further solidifying the country’s position as a leading player in the global clean energy transition.
