**Tokyo, Japan** – The Sasakawa Sports Foundation has launched a new initiative to improve access to sports for individuals with severe disabilities. The project aims to connect specialized sports facilities for people with disabilities with general public facilities, creating a network of resources.
This initiative addresses the current shortage of accessible facilities and trained instructors for individuals with disabilities. By sharing expertise and best practices across the network, the project hopes to ensure everyone has equal access to sports.
A model project has been launched in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, with a swimming class at a dedicated facility for people with disabilities. Staff from Edogawa-ku General Gymnasium received training from experienced instructors on how to assist individuals with disabilities in entering the pool and providing support in the water.
This initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate in sports, regardless of their abilities.
