**Despite initial consideration, the developers of the popular creature-collecting game Palworld have decided against transitioning the title to a free-to-play, live-service model.**
Pocketpair, the studio behind Palworld, confirmed the decision following fan concerns sparked by a translated interview with CEO Takuro Mizobe. While Mizobe acknowledged the potential benefits of a live-service model in extending the game’s lifespan and profitability, he also highlighted the challenges of implementing such a shift.
“The game was not initially designed with that approach in mind,” Mizobe stated. “It is difficult to turn [Palworld] into a live-service game from the ground up, especially without alienating our existing audience.”
He further emphasized the complexity of transitioning a paid game to a free-to-play model, noting that successful examples like PUBG and Fall Guys both took years to achieve the shift.
Pocketpair has instead focused on exploring other monetization strategies, including potential future releases of skins and DLC. The studio assured players that these options will be discussed further as development progresses.
“Our priority remains making Palworld the best game possible,” Pocketpair stated in a recent social media post.
This decision brings relief to fans who expressed concerns about the potential shift to a live-service model, often associated with features like microtransactions and battle passes. While Pocketpair explores alternative monetization strategies, the studio remains committed to delivering the best possible experience for Palworld players.
