**Gandhinagar, India -** Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet (RE-INVEST) 2024 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, outlining India’s ambitious plans to become a global leader in renewable energy and achieve its ambitious target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Emphasizing Mahatma Gandhi’s environmental foresight, PM Modi stressed the importance of a minimal carbon footprint, highlighting that India is not just focusing on achieving these goals but ensuring a sustainable future for the next 1000 years.
“We are not preparing a base for today but for the next 1000 years. Our aim is not to reach the top but to remain on top,” PM Modi said, emphasizing India’s commitment to being a leader in the green energy transition.
PM Modi lauded India’s achievement in achieving its Paris Climate commitments nine years ahead of schedule, a feat he described as unprecedented for a developing nation. The PM highlighted the success of the PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana, a scheme enabling every household in India to become a power producer, as a major initiative towards a green future.
He also highlighted the success of the PM Solar Rooftop Scheme, with over 1.3 crore families registered since its launch, providing families with an additional source of income by selling excess electricity to the grid.
India is the fifth-largest and fastest-growing economy in the world, and under PM Modi’s leadership, it is championing the cause of clean energy. The government has focused on solar, wind, nuclear, and hydropower to secure the country’s energy future.
RE-INVEST 2024, hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), is expected to attract substantial investments in the renewable energy sector. Key international partners for the event include Australia, Denmark, Germany, and Norway, with delegations from the US, UK, Belgium, the European Union, Oman, UAE, Singapore, and Hong Kong also in attendance.
The three-day event will highlight India’s commitment to building a sustainable energy path forward and solidifying its position as a global leader in the renewable energy sector.
