**New York City** – Lisa Zornberg, the chief counsel for New York City Hall, has resigned from her position just days after NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban resigned in the wake of federal raids targeting a number of police officers and close associates of Mayor Eric Adams.
Zornberg, a former senior Manhattan federal prosecutor, served as the lead attorney for the mayor since July 2023. Her departure comes as federal investigators are examining the actions of individuals within Adams’ inner circle and other allies.
While no charges have been filed, the FBI recently conducted raids on the homes of Caban, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Phil Banks, and the townhouse shared by Schools Chancellor David Banks and First Deputy Mayor Sheena, seizing electronic devices.
Caban’s resignation followed the raids, citing a desire to avoid distracting from the NYPD’s work. His twin brother, James Caban, is also under investigation for his alleged role as a “fixer” for high-end Manhattan restaurants and clubs.
“I am deeply grateful to Mayor Adams for giving me the opportunity to serve the city, and I strongly support the work he has done and continues to do for New Yorkers,” Zornberg said in a statement.
Adams expressed gratitude for Zornberg’s service, stating, “These are hard jobs and we don’t expect anyone to stay in them forever.” He plans to announce her replacement soon.
The ongoing federal investigation into the Adams administration raises concerns about potential corruption and influence peddling, casting a shadow over the city’s leadership.
