**Malappuram, Kerala:** A confirmed case of Nipah virus infection in Kerala has led to the death of a 24-year-old man, prompting authorities to take swift action to control the spread of the virus. The deceased, who succumbed to the illness on May 9th, received treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna.
Following his death, a local medical officer’s investigation raised suspicions of Nipah virus infection, leading to the collection of samples for testing. Health Minister Veena George confirmed that the tests, conducted in Kozhikode, returned positive for Nipah virus. The National Institute of Virology in Pune also confirmed the diagnosis on Sunday.
In response to the outbreak, authorities have implemented several precautionary measures to contain the virus. Masks have been made mandatory in Malappuram district, where the death occurred. Additionally, four wards in the Tiruvali panchayat have been placed under restrictions, with cinema theatres and educational institutions being closed until further notice. The public has been advised to avoid gatherings.
