**Malappuram, Kerala:** A young man’s death in Malappuram has sparked fears of a potential Nipah virus outbreak. Health authorities are now monitoring 26 individuals who were in contact with the deceased. The 24-year-old student, who had recently returned from Bengaluru, succumbed to an unknown illness at a private hospital three days ago.

Initial tests conducted at a lab in Kozhikode showed a positive result for Nipah virus, raising serious concerns. However, confirmation awaits results from the Pune Virology Institute. The deceased student had been experiencing fever and leg pain.

Following the initial test results, the health department has taken precautionary measures. A meeting was held in Thiruvali Panchayat, bringing together local representatives and health officials to discuss prevention strategies and containment measures.

Samples have also been sent to the Virology Institute in Alappuzha for further investigation. If the Nipah virus is confirmed, the district administration will implement necessary follow-up actions.
