Sun Sep 15 10:31:00 UTC 2024: ## Lib Dems Pitch Themselves as Champions of NHS and Social Care
**Brighton, UK -** The Liberal Democrats have positioned themselves as the party best equipped to address the challenges facing the NHS and social care, with their leader, Sir Ed Davey, criticizing both the Labour Party and the Conservatives for their approaches.
Speaking at the party’s conference in Brighton, Davey voiced concerns about Labour’s proposed reforms to the NHS, stating that the health service “cannot withstand” these changes without additional funding. He argued that Labour is prioritizing reform over investment, a tactic he believes will ultimately damage the NHS.
Davey also took aim at the Conservatives, accusing them of failing to adequately address the need for social care reform and instead focusing on “spending money in the wrong place.” He cited the 2014 Care Act, introduced by the Lib Dems while in coalition with the Conservatives, which aimed to establish a fairer and more sustainable funding system for social care. He claimed that the act would be benefiting one million pensioners and disabled people if it hadn’t been abandoned by the Conservative government.
The Lib Dems have highlighted their plan for the NHS and social care as a key factor behind their electoral success, which saw them increase their parliamentary presence from 15 to 72 MPs at the recent general election, their best result in a century. The party is currently celebrating this victory at their annual conference in Brighton.
