According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Steelers are considering sticking with Justin Fields as their starter, regardless of Wilson’s status moving forward. The decision hinges on Fields’ performance against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Fields stepped in for Wilson, who suffered a calf injury in the season opener, and impressed in a Week 1 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. He completed 17 of 23 passes for 156 yards and added 57 yards on the ground. While Wilson has stated he’s nearing a return, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the team anticipates Fields starting in Week 2 against the Broncos and Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The move could signal a potential shift in the Steelers’ plans at quarterback. Fields, who struggled during his time with the Chicago Bears, could be a long-term solution after Wilson’s one-year contract expires.

“It was pretty clear from the start that Wilson was a short-term fix, and this might be their chance to see what Fields can do,” said one unnamed source.
