Sun Sep 15 11:41:16 UTC 2024: ## Neeraj Chopra Competes in Diamond League Finale Despite Broken Hand

**Brussels, Belgium:** Double Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra revealed that he participated in the Diamond League season finale with a fractured hand. The Indian javelin thrower sustained the injury during a training session just days before the competition.

Chopra, who finished as runner-up for the second consecutive year, threw 87.86m, narrowly missing the Diamond League crown by a mere centimeter. Despite the injury, he pushed through the pain to compete in the final event of the season.

“As the 2024 season ends, I look back on everything I’ve learned through the year,” Chopra wrote on social media, alongside an X-ray image of his broken hand. “On Monday, I injured myself in practice and x-rays showed that I had fractured the fourth metacarpal in my left hand. But with the help of my team, I was able to participate in Brussels. This was the last competition of the year, and I wanted to end my season on the track.”

Though he did not meet his personal expectations, Chopra expressed satisfaction with the season’s learnings. He plans to fully recover from the hand injury and a previous groin injury, which also affected his performance this year.

Chopra remains optimistic about his future, stating, “I am now determined to return, fully fit and ready to go.”

Looking ahead, the Haryana athlete is already qualified for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, where he aims to defend his 2023 gold medal.
