**Kathmandu, September 15, 2024:** The National Assembly (NA) has unanimously approved the amendment to the Nepal University Bill, 2079 BS, made by the House of Representatives (HoR). The bill, which aims to establish a public university in the non-governmental sector, was initially passed by the NA on July 2nd, 2024. However, the HoR made amendments to the bill on September 9th and sent it back to the NA for their approval.
The NA, after discussing the proposed amendments, ultimately approved the bill, paving the way for the creation of the new university. The proposed institution will focus on multi-disciplinary studies based on an inter-disciplinary concept (liberal arts) and aims to produce skilled, creative, and competitive human resources for the country.
This approval comes as the government seeks to enhance higher education opportunities and foster a more skilled workforce. The university will operate as a non-profit institution, ensuring its focus remains on academic excellence and societal benefit.
