**St. Paul, MN** – Robert Castillo, 41, was sentenced to over 33 years in prison for fatally stabbing his wife, Corinna Woodhull, during a Bible study session at his sister’s home in St. Paul last year. The incident occurred on March 21, 2023, during a weekly gathering.
According to witness accounts, Castillo whispered something to Woodhull, and when she shook her head in response, he pulled out a hunting knife and stabbed her repeatedly. Family members present were able to disarm Castillo.
Castillo pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on March 18, 2024, and expressed regret for his actions in court. However, despite his defense attorney’s request for a 25-year sentence, Judge Richard Kyle handed down a harsher sentence, citing Castillo’s violent history, including previous felony convictions and a warrant for his arrest at the time of the murder.
Woodhull’s family revealed she had been planning to leave Castillo, with divorce papers found in her car after her death. Her mother, Linda Castle, urged women to recognize the warning signs of domestic abuse, stating, “Women need to understand: Don’t accept this kind of behavior. It’s not OK.”
Castillo and Woodhull had been married for two years and shared five children, aged 11 to 24.
