Sun Sep 15 16:52:05 UTC 2024: ## Wolverines Win, But Remain Unimpressive in Pollsters’ Eyes
Ann Arbor, MI – Despite a 28-18 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday, the Michigan Wolverines saw their ranking slip in the US LBM Coaches Poll, falling to No. 17. While the win was a positive step, Michigan’s performance left much to be desired, particularly on offense.
The Wolverines showcased their commitment to a run-first offense, racking up 301 yards on the ground, including a stellar performance by Kalel Mullings who rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns. However, the passing game proved to be a major concern. Starting quarterback Davis Warren threw three interceptions, prompting head coach Sherrone Moore to insert backup Alex Orji.
Adding to the offensive woes, wide receiver Tyler Morris was absent due to injury, and star tight end Colston Loveland left the game in the third quarter with a suspected shoulder injury.
The defense, while generally effective, was hampered by penalties, extending drives for Arkansas State. Despite holding the Red Wolves to just 149 yards in the first three quarters, the third-string defense allowed two consecutive touchdown drives in the fourth quarter.
With a highly anticipated matchup against No. 12 USC looming this week, the Wolverines face the challenge of addressing their offensive inconsistencies and cleaning up the defensive penalties.
Despite the concerns, Michigan remains in control of its own destiny in the College Football Playoff race. However, a strong performance against USC will be crucial to maintain their playoff aspirations.
