Sun Sep 15 10:29:32 UTC 2024: ## Lindor’s Back Tweak Sidelines Mets Star, Acuna Gets First MLB Start

Philadelphia, PA – Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor missed his first game of the season on Saturday due to a sore lower back, ending his bid to play all 162 games. Lindor sustained the injury on Friday when he ran past second base on a double and “jammed” his back.

While Lindor expressed his desire to play, manager Carlos Mendoza opted for caution, stating, “He wants to play, but at the same time, he knows I don’t want to put him in a situation where he is overcompensating and that leads to something else.”

In Lindor’s absence, the Mets recalled 22-year-old infielder/outfielder Luisangel Acuna from Triple-A Syracuse, giving him his first major league start. Acuna impressed in his debut, going 2-for-4 with two singles.

Lindor, who has been a cornerstone for the Mets this season, expressed confidence in Acuna, saying, “He looks very relaxed. He was even-keeled today. He looked fantastic today and knew when to take, when not to take, when to be aggressive.”

The Mets will be hoping for a quick recovery for Lindor, who remains a vital piece for the team as they push for a playoff spot.
