Sat Sep 14 23:36:03 UTC 2024: ## State Police Recruit Dies After Training Exercise, Family Demands Answers

**NEW BRAINTREE, Mass. (AP)** – A 25-year-old recruit, Enrique Delgado-Garcia, has died after suffering a medical crisis during a defensive tactics training exercise at the Massachusetts State Police Academy. Delgado-Garcia, a Worcester resident, entered the training program in April and was set to graduate on October 9th.

Delgado-Garcia’s mother, Sandra Garcia, told reporters that he was hit and injured during the exercise, leading to his death. “I don’t understand why it was so rough if it was just training,” Garcia said. “I want them to explain it to me, that the state explains to me what happened with my son… Why did he hit him so hard that it killed him, that it destroyed his brain and broke all of my son’s teeth and he had a neck fracture too, my son.”

The State Police have confirmed that Delgado-Garcia became unresponsive during the exercise and was transported to a hospital where he died on Friday. While authorities have not specified the nature of the training exercise, they have confirmed that the academy’s medical team responded immediately and determined that he needed urgent care.

The incident is under review by both the Massachusetts State Police and the Worcester County District Attorney’s office. The State Police Association of Massachusetts directed questions on the incident to the state police department.

Governor Maura Healey expressed her condolences, stating that Delgado-Garcia was “a beloved member of his academy class, known for his compassion and devotion to service.”

While the investigation is ongoing, Delgado-Garcia’s family is seeking answers and clarification about the circumstances surrounding his death during the training exercise.
