**Malappuram, Kerala:** Following the death of a 24-year-old man from Nipah virus infection, the Malappuram district administration has imposed stringent restrictions across several areas.
The restrictions, aimed at preventing further transmission of the virus, include mandatory face mask usage for all venturing outside, limiting business hours from 10 AM to 7 PM, and suspending all activities at educational institutions in affected gram panchayats.
The affected areas include Wards 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Tiruvalli Gram Panchayat and Ward 7 of Mampat Gram Panchayat.
Public gatherings have been restricted, and special caution has been advised for events like weddings and funerals, emphasizing social distancing and minimizing attendees.
Entertainment venues, including cinema theatres, have been ordered to close. Schools and colleges in other parts of the district remain open, but mandatory face masks for students, teachers, and staff have been implemented.
Health authorities have urged residents to avoid self-medication and seek medical advice immediately if they experience fever or other symptoms. They have also emphasized the importance of food safety, particularly avoiding fruits that may have been bitten by animals or fallen from trees.
This is the second Nipah-related death in Kerala this year. The first death was reported in July when a boy from Malappuram succumbed to the virus.
The Malappuram district administration has urged all residents to remain vigilant, report any symptoms immediately, and cooperate with the authorities to curb the spread of Nipah virus.
